Time to Think
Since Tuesday of this week, I have been doing electives under Rehabilitation Medicine. For 7 days, I won’t have duties related to my surgery rotation. I chose it because, it goes well together with one of specialty considerations which is orthopedic surgery. We don’t have as many patients. We assess mostly post-stroke and post-operative patients, needing rehabilitation to regain optimum function.
It was great being able to go home, relax and sleep. I was also able to spend time with my lolo who was admitted at UST Hospital. Lastly, I had time to think of my medical journey so far. *sigh* All I say is that I’m loving it by the day. I fought hard to get here. I can still remember my yearly struggle every time the final exams come and how I pushed myself to try to learn as much stuff I can just to pass. It was all worth it. The hospital is now my home and it’s a place where I can put my abilities to good use. I’m used to sleeping late. It went well when I was doing gigs. It goes well with my duty too, especially when I have hourly monitoring at 3 or 4 in the morning. I also consider myself a people person. I honestly don’t find monitoring (getting vital signs and input and output) boring because I enjoy small talks with patients. For me, it’s additional learning. It has also been easier for me to study cases now, because it’s more clinical, we see patients in the flesh. It’s hard to explain, but it’s like lego pieces that fit well together. Haha, mas lalo yata lumabo, basta. Anyway, I’m talking rubbish again. More stories soon. Enjoy the rest of the night. :)

Majority of vehicular accident patients we had at Amang were motorcycle-related. It’s either the driver is intoxicated or driving without helmets.
